Research & Clinical Interests

Building a Research-Focused
Professional Path

My professional interests have increasingly moved toward clinical research, patient advocacy and the practical challenges that affect patients with complex and serious diseases.

I am particularly interested in research areas where there is a need for greater awareness, better coordination, stronger multidisciplinary collaboration and improved access to knowledge.

My current research and professional interests include oncology, osteosarcoma, rare cancers, patient advocacy, clinical research methodology and international research collaboration.

Osteosarcoma Research

A particularly strong influence

Osteosarcoma is one of the areas that has had a particularly strong influence on my research interests.

My involvement in patient advocacy brought me closer to the realities faced by patients and families dealing with advanced osteosarcoma. That experience strengthened my interest in the relationship between clinical care, research, advocacy and access to appropriate treatment.

It also contributed to the development of the Adwoa Anhwere Osteosarcoma Research Initiative.

The initiative is intended to create a platform for

  • Osteosarcoma awareness
  • Patient and family advocacy
  • Research collaboration
  • Clinical and academic knowledge exchange
  • Multidisciplinary engagement
  • Research capacity building
  • International collaboration
  • Greater visibility for osteosarcoma research in Ghana

A Ghanaian-Led Research Vision

Contributing to knowledge, not only receiving it

One of my long-term professional interests is contributing to an environment where Ghanaian healthcare professionals and researchers are not only participants in international research, but also active contributors to it.

"Ghana should not only receive knowledge. Ghana should contribute to it."

This means encouraging collaboration between Ghanaian clinicians, researchers, academic institutions, hospitals and international research communities. The objective is not to work in isolation, but to build meaningful partnerships that allow knowledge, skills and research opportunities to move in both directions.

Areas of Research Interest

Six focus areas

Osteosarcoma & Rare Cancers

Improving awareness and understanding of diseases that can be overlooked or diagnosed late.

Patient Advocacy

Understanding the challenges patients experience beyond the clinical diagnosis, including access, communication, treatment pathways and continuity of care.

Clinical Research

Developing stronger knowledge of research methodology and evidence-based approaches to healthcare.

Multidisciplinary Care

Promoting communication between different healthcare professionals involved in complex patient care.

International Collaboration

Building relationships with researchers, clinicians, academic institutions and organisations across countries.

Research Capacity Building

Supporting opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional development and stronger research participation in Ghana.

Looking Ahead

A path that connects experience, advocacy and research

My long-term goal is to contribute to research and healthcare initiatives that are practical, collaborative and centred on patients. I am particularly interested in opportunities to work with oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, researchers, academic institutions, hospitals, patient organisations and international research partners.

The journey is still developing, but the direction is clear: to connect clinical experience, patient advocacy and research in ways that can contribute to better healthcare.
